Elixir Flagship Roastery/Cafe

by Eatout-Brisbane on December 21, 2009

“Good coffee spot in Stafford?” I type into Twitter as I prepared to embark on a day of appointments.  A good source gives me the word on a new spot. I dutifully follow instructions and find myself in an industrial block in Stafford.  Sounds like a strange place to stumble upon a coffee haven, but that is exactly where you will find the new flagship cafe/retail/roasting/training space of coffee roasters Elixir.

Can I just say how jealous I am that this is not in my neck of the woods, and how lucky you Stafford locals are that its in yours.

Walking into the cafe feels like entering another world, outside – noisy, hot and glaring sun, inside – cool, dark with accents of red in a vibe that draws you in with its sexy, urban feel.  I felt immediately refreshed, and my first caffeine hit of the visit came via the aromas I inhaled from the roastery. Heaven.  Elixir DisplayElixir Interior

Brand spanking shiny and new, the cafes interior is an artistic ode to the love of coffee.  I decide that pics are needed, I have the scoop and I’m about to share on Twitter. We plant our posse on the comfy corner couch, and start snapping. Sprung.  The ever attentive staff are quick to come over and offer us a tour, and a bit of a background on Elixir.

The brothers Elixir – Jason and David Narciso have been around coffee for some time, their Mother, Carmel Narciso owned one of Brisbanes first coffee roasting houses in the late 1980’s over 15 years ago.  They’ve owned a couple of cafes between them, and began roasting their own in 2007.  You can actually watch the brothers thru the windows roasting every batch – they are that hands on.  Catch them for a chat, like I did, and you will be seriously infected with their enthusiasm for all things coffee.  They know and love those beans.

There is a specially built training room, and if you buy a coffee machine from the brothers, you will get hands on training on how to use it.  No point forking out for a machine if you don’t know how to use it, right?Elixir Coffee Machine

So how was the coffee itself? Well, it was gorgeous, (Flat white and Iced coffee at our table) and no I won’t bamboozle you with coffee descriptions, I don’t have the words or expertise other then to say that I vote with my tastebuds, and my tastebuds say yes.Ice Coffee

Will Elixir be setting up shop in my south side industrial area anytime soon? – who knows, I gave it my best shot but it seems to me the brothers have their hands full with their latest project.  Suffice to say I will continue to lobby for it.  I suggest Stafford folks and coffee aficionados pop in for a visit soon.

I am lucky enough to be local to Elixir Coffee Roastery/Cafe, which I only discovered last week. I buy coffee beans for my home coffee machine, so I ventured in to buy fresh beans. As described in the previous post, it is smack bang in the middle of an industrial area, however I go past it on my way to Stafford Shopping Centre. I was so surprised when I opened the doors to this gem. I expected it to be just a counter to buy coffee, but there is a lovely seating area with beautiful food in the refrigerated cabinet. They also do breakfast. The coffee is fantastic. It’s great to have a local place to get good fresh coffee. Well worth stopping and checking out.
