Cruisers Café, Bar and Grill has just opened its doors at Portside Wharf, adding relaxed modern Australian cuisine to the diverse mix of menus on offer in the riverfront precinct at Hamilton.

The restaurant is owned and managed by Michael and Diana Borowicz, replacing their previous eatery at Portside Wharf, Mahjongg Café, which after three years of operation closed for a refurbishment in August last year.

Mrs Borowicz said despite boasting a new look and new name, Cruisers Café, Bar and Grill encapsulated much of what made Mahjongg Café so popular.

“We still have the same food, service and value, with a new name and some new additions to the menu,” she said.

“Our focus is still on modern Australian food, or what some would call an upmarket pub-style menu.

“All the favourites are there, with the addition of char-grilled steaks, hence the new name.”

The menu has been designed by Mr Borowicz, who is the executive chef, having worked in the industry for more than 25 years, with Mrs Borowicz hand-making the desserts and handling the administration.

Mrs Borowicz said Cruisers Café, Bar and Grill was open for breakfast and lunch seven days, and dinner Thursday to Sunday, from 5pm.

“We have been genuinely touched and humbled by all our regular customers who have been coming past as we work on the new restaurant and saying ‘we miss you, when are you opening again?’ she said.

“We put that down to the fact we are a family owned and run business that offers genuinely friendly service.  They see us in the front of house.  That is what sets us apart and is what our regular customers love.

“They also tell us that our food tastes like real food, not restaurant food, and that means a lot to us because that is exactly what we want to serve for our customers.”

Mrs Borowicz said the new fit-out focused on casual alfresco dining, with a highlight the recycled timber bar, featuring back-lit blue and green glass panels.

She said the location, at the entry to Portside Wharf, was ideal, with the precinct featuring a vibrant friendly atmosphere, particularly when cruise ships were docked.

“We are looking forward to how the precinct and the wider Hamilton area will continue to transform over the short to medium term with all the new development earmarked for the area,” she said.

“It is set to become an even more exciting precinct.”

Humid Events has been holding dinners for singles for eleven years, and can boast four weddings, three engagements, and a baby!!

The concept is the brainstorm of Peta Stanley, who hosts the dinners, which have attracted guests such as Gavin, from season four of “Farmer wants a Wife”, and Greg, “Qld’s Hottest Tradie”.

The dinners are aimed at singles aged 35 years and over and have an equal number of men to women attending each function.

“These functions are obviously a great way to expand your social circle or to meet someone special,” says Peta.

When asked why she thinks the events are so successful, she says that it is a very relaxed environment and people are there for the same reason – firstly to meet new people, and secondly because they can attend alone, without waiting for friends to be available for a night out!!
